Chairperson

Chairperson of the Board of SMART Recovery Ireland.  Darren holds a Hons degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy and a Masters in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.  Currently working in the Addictions services, Darren has vast experience within the area of Addiction Recovery.  He was one of the first to train as a SMART facilitator in Ireland prior to the pilot phase.  He is an active board member of a number of community and voluntary organisations.  An accredited counsellor with Addiction Counsellors of Ireland.  Darren has been facilitating weekly meetings in the North West of Ireland for over five years

Emmet Major has seventeen years’ experience in the health sector, particularly in the addiction recovery field.  He has worked as an addiction counsellor, rehabilitation centre manager and is currently a community worker with the Western Region Drug and Alcohol Task Force.  He has been involved with SMART Recovery Ireland since its pilot phase and has facilitated a SMART Recovery meeting in Galway City since April 2017.  He is currently secretary for SMART Recovery Ireland.

Ann Lacey is Treasurer of SMART Recovery Ireland since 2018. Ann has been a Community Drugs Project Worker in County Wexford since 2001. She holds BA in Adult Education and Community Development and also BA in Counselling and Psychotherapy. Ann supports both people who misuse substances and also concerned persons of people who misuse substances. She trained in SMART in the pilot stage and has been facilitating SMART Recovery meetings since 2018 throughout County Wexford, and is involved in the pilot of online meetings.

Amanda Quigley

National Coordinator

With many years’ experience of working within the community and voluntary sector in recovery, both in mental health and addiction challenges.  Amanda trained as a SMART facilitator in 2014.  Recently appointed as the Coordinator of SMART Recovery Ireland CLG, she brings experience and knowledge from Education, Counselling, Project Management and Training.  An accredited counsellor with Addiction Counsellors Ireland and National Association of Professional Counsellors and Psychotherapists.
